In their own words

Expect a lot but demand nothing in life's journey.

I am a practising Muslim and would like to meet a Muslim partner for life. I am very relaxed, tolerant and loyal but not particularly an ambitious person. I love poetry, music, current affairs and documentary programmes. I like romantic poets of English literature. Keats and Shelly are my favourite poets. I also love Urdu poetry and utter Urdu verse myself. My anthology of verse is called 'Guldasta-e-Khizaan' (Autmn Bouquet). I have two grown up boys who are now adults, well established in life with family of their own. I am devoted to my children. I am a British national and live, for the major part of the year, in England. I also have a villa in Turkey and a home in Dehli. I usually spend about three months in Turkey, a country I love. I am learning Turkish and would like to marry a Turkish lady who speaks some English. Ideally, she is also able to drive and has computer skills. If circumstances demand, I am willing to relocate to Turkey but would like to maintain my maisonette in England and my house in India. Religion is very important to me but I do not subscribe to extremism. The Prohet (s.a.w) is the object of my devotion. I enjoy cooking, believe in complete sex equality and like to share house work. Finally, I must confess that I have a lazy disposition and like to take things very easy. The word URGENT is hard to find in my lexicon.

Insights
When raising a family, how important is it that your kids learn to speak Turkish?
Although this does not apply in my case literally, but I took great care to encourage my children to learn Urdu (their mother tongue) ... which they did and to value their roots and culture. This fosters self-respect leading to a person making a positive contribution in life.
Describe the perfect evening.
To walk hand in hand with my partner along a Turkish beach and watch the sunset on the receding horizon.
Do you believe in love at first sight?
I have often contemplated upon Mirza Ghalib's (the famous Indian poet) philosophical couplet: - Ishq pe zor naheen, hai ye vo aatish Ghalib Jo laga'ye na lagey, awr bujha'ye na baney. (Love is totally spontaneous, it is a flame Ghalib That cannot be kindled, and may not be extinguished) .... and despite my best effort, I have yet to reach a definite conclusion.
How many kids would you like to have?
As many as nature bestows.
If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?
To not only banish conflicts and wars but establish mutual understanding and harmony and love.
What is the most important lesson that you've learned?
My ex-wife was demanding, materialistic and untrusting to the point of paranoia. Her conduct was a living interpretation of Mirza Ghalib's another incisive couplet: - Ya rabb na vo samjhey hein, na samjhein'gey miree baat Kartaa hoon muhabbat to guzartaa hai gumaan awr (My Lord, they have never trusted my sincerity, nor ever will They will forever misconstrue my act of unalloyed devotion)
What do your friends like about you most?
My inability to count money and propensity to act on impulse.
What do your friends tease you about the most?
My simplicity, my trusting nature and uncomplicated view of life.
What gets on your nerves?
Insincerity, pure selfishness, disregard for others, back biting (speaking ill of others in their absence) and lack of empathy with others who happen to be less fortunate.
What is the most important thing in a relationship?
Sincerity, gratitude, loyalty and honesty and feeling of obligation to return a favour, no matter how insignificant. I must confess that I could never conceivably be attracted to smokers (even occasional) or ladies who imbibe alcohol (even socially).
What's the best age to get married?
Whenever it is suitable.
What turns you off?
Ingratitude, greed and constant preoccupation with consumer goods.
What turns you on?
Considerate, loyal and affectionate disposition, and genuine will to listen. In that order. Last but not least, to be content and count one's blessings also appeal to me very much.
What do you hope to be doing five years from now?
Even more retired ... but married to a Turkish speaking lady.
